The Alta Via is a high altitude hiking trail through the Dolomites mountains in Italy, from Dobbiaco in the north to Belluno in the south - a distance of 110km. This seven day hike is the easiest of the 6 Alta Via's in the Dolomites and starts from Dobbiaco and ends at Rifugio Capanna Trieste. The route takes you through the magical atmosphere of the Dolomites, a land of wild open spaces, green meadows and jagged peaks. Throughout the hike you will be surrounded by glaciers, ridges and massifs, with spellbinding views that make every moment unforgettable. Some hikes involve steeper ascents, but there is often the possibility to make the day’s hike shorter or easier. In any case, the views along the way and the comfortable shelters at the end of the day are always worth the effort!

moderate

3

MODERATE – GRADE 3 The trip is graded moderate with daily hikes of 4 to 6 hours along either gravel roads or well-marked hiking trails. The routes described here sometimes involve steeper ascents, but can be hiked without problems by a reasonably fit adult. On some occasions, there are optional opportunities for climbing local peaks; these are more difficult trails, suitable for experienced mountain hikers. Bear in mind the altitude is always around 2000m+ and the terrain is sometimes rocky and slippery. Conditions can change rapidly in this mountain environment - you should always check with your host before setting out each day. Luggage transfers are not possible to the huts on days 4 and 7 so you will need to carry your overnight requirements in your rucksack.
