Independent, Self Guided & Guided Walking Holidays In Britain & Abroad

Walking Holidays

Walking Holidays

Walking holidays are a great way to see any country.  You will be able to find a wide range of holidays available in most of Europe as well as parts of the Americas, Africa and Asia.  Walking is the most natural form of travel and for this reason it is a fantastic way to take in all that a country has to offer.  Whether you are walking around a rural community in Bulgaria or taking in a Budapest Spring Festival in Hungary, you can really get a sense of the culture of the local community as you stroll around.

A common problem with walking holidays is that you can sometimes find that you are either doing too little or too much walking.  Most good walking holiday travel agents should give you an idea of how exhausting the activities are likely to be.  These usually give you details of the sort of terrain you are going to be crossing a long with estimated times and distances.  The best bet for planning your walking trip is to walk for a couple of hours till you get to a site of interest.  This could be visiting a castle or monument, a café or market or a musical event like an opera.  This way you can break up your walk allowing time to rest and relax without missing anything that is on offer.

Guided Walking Tours

Guided Cultural Walking Tours are a great way to take the stress out of organising your holiday.  If you have an idea of where you want to go but don’t know what is on offer then you can get advice from a good independent travel agent as many of these specialist tour guides have experienced the walking holidays for themselves and will be able to tell you exactly how strenuous and enjoyable a trip was for them.  A guided cultural walking tour will involve a guide taking you to some set out locations as well as looking after you and answering your questions.  This can be a good holiday solution for many as it means you can find out any information you need quickly and easily.

Independent Walking Tours

An independent walking tour is one where you will have to do the majority of the work for yourself.  You can find some places that provide a pre set out route and will book your accommodation and transport luggage for you.  These sorts of self-guided walking tours are good if you are unsure of where you want to visit.

The other option is to work out a route for yourself.  This would involve a lot of planning on your part but you should be able to save yourself money and get the type of walking holiday that you want.   If it is your first time organising a walking holiday then I would recommend starting with what you know.  If you live in Britain then it would be worth planning a tour in England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland.  The reason for this is obvious, as you already know the laws, the money and what life in Britain is like so if you get into any trouble you can be prepared for it.
